
Our Structure
SALGA is a unitary body that brings together both political and administrative leadership to represent, promote, and protect the interests of local government. We operate through our national office in Pretoria and nine provincial offices across the country.
Political Leadership
Our political leadership sets the strategic direction, policy, and oversight for SALGA.
- National Conference & National Members Assembly The highest decisionmaking bodies, bringing together representatives from all 257 municipalities.
- National Executive Committee (NEC) Elected at the National Conference, the NEC provides political leadership and includes the president, deputy presidents, and provincial chairpersons.
- Provincial Executive Committees (PECs) Elected during provincial conferences, PECs provide leadership at the provincial level.
- Working Groups established at both national and provincial levels, these groups handle technical and policy matters and act as the strategic engine of the organisation.
- SALGA Women’s Commission dedicated to advancing gender equality and representation in local government.

Administrative Leadership
Our administrative arm ensures that strategies are implemented and municipalities receive the support they need.
- Chief Executive Officer (CEO) leads the administrative team and drives delivery across the organisation.
- Provincial Offices. Each province has a dedicated office, managed by a Provincial Executive Officer, to provide localised support.
