Consultation and Mandate Session on Collective Bargaining Matters
On the 13th of June 2024, SALGA consulted municipalities on the following issues before the National/Central Division of the SALGBC:
"This session aims to consult the member municipalities to determine inputs that will be presented to the SALGBC" – Cllr. Busi Hlumbane, Chairperson (Municipal Capacity & Institutional Resilience (MCIR) Working Group) The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has, over the years, concluded various pieces of collective agreements at the National/Central Division of the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC), amongst others:
The MCA expired in 2020, however, the agreement remains in force and effect until a new collective agreement is concluded, with the Salary and Wage Collective Agreement on its last leg of implementation ending 30 June 2024. Over and above the abovementioned pieces of collective agreements concluded within the auspices of the National/Central Division of the SALGBC, parties at the SALGBC also embarked into negotiations on the review of the Municipal Categorization and Wage Curve and Compensatory Framework which is designed to benefit employees in essential services in municipalities who were on duty during the COVID-19 Lockdown period.
