SALGA to convene 2nd Annual Local Government Performance Management Seminar

Posted: 01 February 2019

As part of SALGA’s ‘Good Governance and Institutional Resilience’ strategic goal, the organisation will convene its 2nd Annual Local Government Performance Management Seminar on 11 – 12 February 2019, at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre, Gauteng.

With the theme: “Performance for Impact: Meaningful Indicators for Service Delivery and Citizen Expectations,” the Seminar will be held under the auspices of the SALGA Centre for Leadership and Governance (SCLG), as part of its Continuous Development Programmes.

It will further serve as an authentic platform for addressing topical issues affecting performance management. Thus, provide an avenue for cross-pollination of ideas, transfer knowledge and municipal peer-learning on the subjects concerned.

The objectives of the Seminar include the following:

  • To keep the municipal political leadership, senior management and practitioners  abreast of important developments in the arena of performance management systems;
  • To create a platform for municipal political, senior management and practitioners to network and share best practices based on their particular, and/or peculiar experiences on the ground;
  • To create a platform for thought leadership and engagement between industry thought leaders and the municipal practitioners;
  • To create an enabling environment for effective advocacy and constituency immersion on SALGA programmes and interventions in the arena of performance management;
  • To create a user-friendly and open reflective opportunity that enables problems experienced at a local level to be surfaced with a view of generating mutually beneficial solutions that contribute to high performing municipalities; and
  • To assess capacity development needs of the sector in the arena of performance management systems.

The Seminar will focus on approaches and mechanisms for transforming performance for impact and how to design meaningful performance indicators for service delivery. Furthermore, it aims to deliver insights and learnings that will contribute towards entrenching a high-performance culture in municipalities.

Topics to be discussed, include but are not limited to Managing Performance – From Individual Indicators to Citizen Level Impact, How to use Performance Management to improve Service Delivery through developing Impact Indicators, as well as How Cloud Computing will accelerate Municipal Services in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
