Posted: 20 May 2024

Waterwheels wheelchair and beach access mats were handed over to Buffalo City Metro in Gonubie Beachside on Monday 20 May 2024.

This is a partnership between BCM and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) and the hand over was done l under the theme "Wet your feet on a beach, Full Access for all".

The objective of the Metro's partnership with DFFE is to enhance a greater participation in this region, attract persons living with disabilities in particularly wheelchair-users, strollers and to further promote universal full-beach accessibility in the city.

The collaboration also aims at promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

BCMM Executive Mayor Cllr Princess Faku gave the recipients a message of hope, assuring them that the Metro will always empower people living with disabilities. "We need to fight against the marginalization of people with disabilities," she said.
"I plead with officials and the public at large that these facilities do not go to waste. The success of this project is on us," Faku added.
