SALGA convenes 2nd Research Colloquium in Durban

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in partnership with the University of the Western Cape (UWC)’s Dullah Omar Institute (DOI) will host the 2nd Annual Research Colloquium on 10 – 12 March 2019 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal.

Themed  “Addressing Inequality through Inclusive, Sustainable & Viable Local Governments,” the Research Colloquium brings together municipalities, academia, local government experts and key stakeholders in local government. It creates a platform to explore, debate, share ideas on practical, policy and evidence-based solutions to some of the stubborn challenges facing the South African local government.

The Colloquium presents a platform for researchers and delegates to present and discuss research specific to local government, pursue a direct policy impact of their work and exchange ideas for future research. SALGA strives to be responsive to the dynamic challenges faced by its members and understands the key fundamental pressures faced by local government.

Consequently, SALGA leads in the transformation of local government and actively pursues solutions for problems facing municipalities through research and information dissemination; provision of specialised services to strengthen local government capacity; facilitating shared learning between municipalities; human resource development and Councillor training ie. Leadership development.

Many problems facing local government are complex and require detailed analysis and innovative solutions that will translate into implementable solutions. Embedded is SALGA’s mandate is the role to facilitate shared learning environment between municipalities and ensure that local government policies that are guided by empirical research.
