SALGA scoops sixth clean audit award

Posted: 01 November 2018

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) was honoured today at the Auditor General Clean Audit Awards ceremony in Pretoria. SALGA received its 6th Clean Audit award for the sixth consecutive year, a remarkable achievement which has been maintained since 2013.

Among the 49 recipients who received the awards in the National A’s portfolio included the Presidency, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Justice and Constitutional Development.

On 10 October 2019 SALGA tabled its Annual Report 2017/2018 to the Portfolio Committee on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in terms of the Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999 where it received praised for its good governance systems.

SALGA has been achieving clean audits on both performance and financial information as issued by the Auditor General of South Africa. The organisation’s performance serves as an example to our 257 member-municipalities and seeks to inspire the desired state of good corporate governance in the local government sector, which can subsequently lead to a better life for all beneficiaries of municipal services.

SALGA remains cognisant of the challenges besetting the sector and continues to lead by example in building an institution that is at the cutting-edge of high standards of good governance and accountability in the local government sector.

The Auditor General Clean Awards inspires organisations to reach excellence and put accountability systems in place.  SALGA has called for its member-municipalities to draw inspiration from other award recipients in how they manage their governance affairs.

The SALGA CEO, Xolile George, thanked all staff and stakeholders for their role in ensuring that the organisation maintains these highest standards and for the continued support and commitment.
