Shining a spotlight on economic empowerment and transformation, winners in the 17th Annual TOP EMPOWERMENT Awards were announced on Thursday, 12 April 2018, at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. SALGA CEO Xolile George was named the Top Empowered Public Sector Leader 2018. This adds up to his numerous Leadership Awards in recognition of his excellent and visionary leadership at the helm of SALGA.

Reacting to his new accolade, SALGA CEO Xolile says: “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition. This is an acknowledgement of the ongoing transformational agenda that SALGA continues to pursue, internally, to build a resilient institution, and externally, to fulfil our developmental mandate which is to transform local government and inspire service delivery.”

SALGA CEO, Xolile George has been steering the organisation for the past 11 (eleven) years and this award is bestowed upon him at a time where SALGA is at the pinnacle of its success story. The last five years has seen the organisation achieve its objectives focussing primarily on the sound regulatory environment, fiscal and financial management, capacity building and simulating innovation and systematic intelligence. SALGA moved from an administration which was often under immense pressure, a period that was characterised with successive disclaimer audit opinions until 2007/08 to a well-oiled member-centric and high performing organisations.

SALGA Chief Financial Officer, Nceba Mqoqi: “Our organisation has evolved since 2007 to an organisation that has effective leadership; robust corporate governance; financial management; performance management and accountability systems in place.
“These good governance principles systems have led to the organisation taking a giant stride inits performance by consistently achieving a minimum performance against predetermined objectives of 98% against its annual performance plan (APP), as well as achieving five (5) consecutive “clean audit” outcomes from the Auditor General,” Mqoqi says.

TOP EMPOWERMENT Awards are considered an ultimate accolade for institutions that are implementing a transformative agenda.
